چکیده

original article   the objectives of this research were to study the correlations of heat strain score index (hssi) and values of wet-bulb globe temperature (wbgt) index with physiological parameters such as core body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure of workers exposed to heat stress in a glass manufacturing plant in order to determine the reliability of hssi. this cross sectional study was carried out on 72 production, packing, and quality control male workers of a glass manufacturing plant. the wbgt values were recorded according to standard no. international standard organization (iso) 7243 heat stress standard during the summer season in july–august 2013. metabolic rate for each task was estimated according to standard no. iso 8996. body core temperature and heart rate were monitored according to standard no. iso 9886. hssi questionnaire was used to evaluate heat strain. the data were analyzed using pearson and spearman correlation coefficients and linear regression test. the maximum wbgt value (30.20±1.06ºc) was recorded in production unit of plant. the scores of hssi index in production, packing, and quality control operators were 23.16±1.9, 21.56±1.69, and 21.43±2.04, respectively. the highest correlation coefficient was found between the measured wbgt values and core body temperature (r=0.462). positive correlations between the values of wbgt index and studied physiological parameters indicated that the wbgt as the most widely accepted index is better than hssi for the assessment of thermal stress in glass manufacturing industry.

comparing the association between wet bulb globe temperature (wbgt) and heat stress score index (hssi) thermal indices with physiological parameters in a melting plant

original article   introduction: exposure to heat is one of the workplace risk factors, which may lead to thermal strain, such as rising heart rate and body temperature. to have the best association between a heat stress indices and physiological parameters have always been a major concern for those studying the subject. this study aims to compare the association of two heat stress indices with...

a survey of the relationship of heat strain scoring index and wet bulb globe temperature index with physiological strain index among men in hot work environments

background: heat stress is a common and usual problem in industries. several indices, including wet bulb globe temperature (wbgt), are used to evaluate heat stress. however, wbgt index has limitations such as high cost and response time. it is not thus suitable as a screening tool. heat strain scoring index (hssi) is also an observational-judgmental technique that has been developed for primary...

A physiological strain index to evaluate heat stress.

A physiological strain index (PSI), based on rectal temperature (Tre) and heart rate (HR), capable of indicating heat strain online and analyzing existing databases, has been developed. The index rates the physiological strain on a universal scale of 0-10. It was assumed that the maximal Tre and HR rise during exposure to exercise heat stress from normothermia to hyperthermia was 3°C (36.5-39.5...

بررسی استرس گرمایی در یک معدن روباز سنگ آهن و ارتباط آن با استرین فیزیولوژیکی

Introduction: Workers in open pit iron ore mines are exposed to heat stress which can cause health and safety problems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate heat stress among open-pit mine workers of iron ore based on Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index and also to investigate its relationship with physiological Strain. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted o...

The physiological strain index applied to heat-stressed rats.

A physiological strain index (PSI) based on heart rate (HR) and rectal temperature (Tre) was recently suggested to evaluate exercise-heat stress in humans. The purpose of this study was to adjust PSI for rats and to evaluate this index at different levels of heat acclimation and training. The corrections of HR and Tre to modify the index for rats are as follows: PSI = 5 (Tre t - Tre 0). (41.5 -...
